“Where do you think you’re going Yamada Ryosuke?” Inquired a tall lady as Ryosuke turned to her, “I’m going out kaa-san” he bluntly responded as the lady crossed her arms; “You’re meeting your fiancée tomorrow and the least you could do is prepare yourself, not meet-up with your fake girlfriend” his mother hissed as Ryosuke smirked, “Don’t call her that kaa-san, she’s worth more than you know” he muttered as he made his way to the door leaving his mother speechless at his remark.
“Do you really have to do this to him kaa-san? I don’t mind getting engaged in his place” Chihiro stated as their mother shook her head, “No, this is a matter for Ryosuke and Ryosuke only” she responded as Chihiro watched his little brother leave on his motorcycle. “But kaa-san…” Chihiro tried to reason as her mother sternly clicked her tongue making the latter look down, “Hai” she quietly walked away.
.//.

“You’re an hour late you know” Eri crossed her arms as Ryosuke scratched the back of head, “I’m sorry Rei-chan, you know my mom” he said as his girlfriend, Chitose Eri nodded in response; “Tonight is your last night in Tokyo ne?” Eri wandered off as they started to walk, “Don’t act like it isn’t your last night too” Ryosuke stuck his tongue out as the girl giggled. “Okay, tonight is our last night in Tokyo” Eri rephrased her statement as they arrived in front of Tokyo Sea Life Park, “Here?” Ryosuke asked as Eri nodded; “We’ve always had this on our to-go list for the past 3 months you know” Eri stated as Ryosuke nodded.
“Why are you going again?” Ryosuke inquired as Eri sighed, “Papa’s business” she mumbled as Eri turned to him; “And you?” she raised an eyebrow, “Kaa-san” Ryosuke bluntly stated – true, just the mere mention of his okaasan already meant that it had something to do with their business as well. “You know, I don’t get why our families can’t be business partners or something” Eri whispered as they arrived at the ticket booth. “After this, let’s go get something to eat ne?” Ryosuke chimed as Eri shook her head in response, “I can’t believe you, food again?” she giggled as they bought their tickets and headed inside. “Tuna!” Eri ran towards the tuna aquarium, “If you wanted to see Tuna, we could have just went to Tsukiji Market” Ryosuke teased as Eri raised an eyebrow as she took out the site map and handed it to Ryosuke; “Okay, let’s see where you want to go” Eri sang as Ryosuke gladly accepted the map and sighed. “Penguins! Penguins! Penguins!” Ryosuke cheered which made Eri raise an eyebrow, “Honestly? If you wanted to see Penguins, we should’ve gone to Arioka-kun’s place” Eri teased as Ryosuke stuck his tongue out; “Call it payback Ichigo~” Eri giggled as Ryosuke offered his hand to Eri who gladly accepted it.
‘Does she even know what today is?’ Ryosuke thought as he looked at Eri who seemed to be oblivious about what today’s event was for Ryosuke. The couple passed by a small pool where children were gathered, “Can we go see? Can we?” Eri beamed as Ryosuke nodded before getting dragged by his girlfriend to the small pool. “Starfish” Eri squealed which made Ryosuke laugh, “Do you want to go touch it?” he inquired as Eri nodded shyly; “You’re not allowed to get scared okay?” Ryosuke remarked which made Eri’s eyes widen in shock when Ryosuke pulled her hand close to the water, “On the second thought, never mind” Eri giggled as she tried to get away from Ryosuke’s grip; “Let go Ryosuke! It’s not funny!” Eri tried to escape but it was to no avail when she already felt her hand in the water, “It wants to play with you Eri!” Ryosuke joked as he placed Eri’s hand on top of a starfish and let her go. “See, it isn’t so bad” Ryosuke laughed as Eri looked at her hand to check if it was still there, “Mou! You bully!” She playfully punched Ryosuke’s shoulder.
“Why did you let my hand go?” Eri inquired as Ryosuke held her hand again, “I might as well try and get used to it right? After all, we won’t be together after tonight,” Ryosuke looked at his feet; “So I guess we should get used to it” Ryosuke added as Eri stopped in her tracks. “Stop speaking nonsense Ryosuke, please? I thought we’re on a date right now, can we not talk about that?” Eri muttered as Ryosuke nodded and placed his other hand on Eri’s head, “Let’s go see the Daikis” Ryosuke winked as he pulled Eri towards the penguins. “That one looks exactly like Daiki” Ryosuke pointed towards a penguin that was near the view; “You’re so mean to your friend Ichigo” Eri giggled as Ryosuke chuckled, “Deshou? Only because Daiki’s also mean to me” he responded.
.//.
After at least an hour and half of touring the aquarium, the couple headed for their favourite Yakiniku restaurant in Tokyo, “I’ll miss dinners with you” Ryosuke muttered as Eri shook her head and boarded Ryosuke’s motorcycle as the other began to drive.
As they arrived at the Yakiniku restaurant, Ryosuke looked around to see how packed the place was – to his shock, it looked particularly empty. “I think it’s closed” Ryosuke stated as he got off the motorcycle and taking off his helmet, “But the lights are open and I can hear music” Eri stated as she got off as well. “Well, let’s go see” Ryosuke smiled as he walked ahead of Eri; “If they’re closed, I’m going to cry” Ryosuke joked as Eri bit her lower lip, “They wouldn’t mind closing just to see you cry” Eri teased as Ryosuke opened the door, only to be surprised by confetti and streamers in the air.
“What’s going on?” Ryosuke raised an eyebrow as the song Happy Birthday started playing, “Otanjoubi Omedetou Ryosuke!” Greeted Eri who held a small box in her hand; “How did you? When?” Ryosuke inquired as his friends neared him with a cake. “She planned all this you know” Arioka Daiki winked as Ryosuke looked at the cake, it was most probably strawberry chocolate because it was their favourite flavour.
“Arigatou Eri-chan!” Ryosuke hugged Eri who did the same, “This is our last night together right? We have to make it memorable” she whispered as Ryosuke was dragged off by his friends to a small makeshift stage. “Hai” Takaki Yuya pushed Eri towards him as music started to play, “This was the song when we first met” Eri whispered; “What are we supposed to do Bakaki?!” Ryosuke barked as Yuya crossed his arms, “Dance of course, that’s how the both of you met right? At a after party?” he responded as Eri laughed. Ryosuke nodded and the couple started to dance.
A song
Played on a solo saxophone
A crazy sound
A lonely sound
A cry that tells us love goes on and on
Played on a solo saxophone
It’s telling me to hold you tight
And dance like it’s the last night of the world
“Tonight IS like the last night of the world ne?” Eri inquired as Ryosuke looked at her, “Shh, let’s not talk about that now, it’s my party remember?” he responded as he wrapped his arms around Eri who did the same. “I’ll miss you Ryosuke” Eri whispered as Ryosuke placed a kiss on her hair, “Not as much I’ll miss you of course” he responded. “Promise me that you won’t forget about me” Eri requested as Ryosuke nodded, “I won’t only promise Eri, I’ll do it” he responded as they shared a kiss – earning them cheers and claps from the people around them.
We may be
I will sing with you, a song...
So stay with me and hold me tight
and dance like it’s the last night of the world
“I love you Yamada Ryosuke” Eri whispered as the other held her tighter, “I love you more Chitose Eri” he responded as they broke away. “Alright, alright, let’s bring in the cake!” Yuya said through the microphone as the same cake that Daiki carried was wheeled to them. “Make a wish and blow the cake Ryosuke” Eri giggled as Ryosuke looked at the ceiling and closed his eyes, ‘If this is really my last night with her, I don’t want it to end’ he wished as he blew his candles.
“Alright! Let’s party!” Ryosuke announced as the cake once wheeled away and the music started playing again.
.//.
At least 30 minutes into the party, Ryosuke noticed that Eri was nowhere to be found; “Where’s Eri?” Ryosuke inquired as Eri’s best friend: Kotaki Nozomu looked at the floor and sighed, “She left a few minutes ago, her dad picked her up” Nozomu responded as Ryosuke’s eyes widened in shock. “I know, she said she was sorry that she couldn’t stay and she wants you to have this” Nozomu handed Ryosuke the small box that Eri presented to him a while ago and nodded, “Thanks Non-chan” Ryosuke replied as Nozomu patted his back and joined the party.
Ryosuke took a seat and opened the box to reveal a necklace, and with it a note. Ryosuke set aside the necklace and opened the note.
’Ryo-chan, I’m sorry for not finishing the party – that in case I didn’t get to finish it. You know how papa is with my schedule. I’m sorry again. But I’m glad I got to celebrate  your party with you before I left, today was the best day ever and I would never forget it – like I would never forget you. Do you remember this necklace? It was the one you saw at a shop in Shibuya a few weeks ago, you said you wanted it so much so I thought that it was the best birthday gift. Please take care of it okay? That will help you remember me as I will remember you. I’m sorry I wasn’t able to say good-bye too. I didn’t want ours to be tearful because I know that we’ll meet again, maybe not soon – but I know that we will meet again.
Happy Birthday Ryosuke, I love you.
-Eri’
And with that, Ryosuke let his tears fall from his eyes; “I love you too Eri” Ryosuke whispered as he looked at the necklace, it was indeed the same necklace that he saw in Shibuya when he and Eri had a date there. “Thanks for everything Eri” Ryosuke whispered as he placed the necklace on his neck and placed the note inside his pocket, “C’mon Ryosuke, tonight is also the last night of your single life right?” His best friend, Chinen Yuri placed his arm over Ryosuke’s shoulders. “Shh, no one’s supposed to know about that yet!” Ryosuke scolded as the latter nodded, “Gomen ne~” he chuckled.
Ryosuke left the party for a while to get some air, he leaned against his motorcycle and looked at the necklace and sighed.
‘Sayonara Eri, thank you for giving me the best birthday ever’

“I can’t believe you slept in!” Ryosuke’s mother scolded as they made their way to the office of Stardust Corporations President where Ryosuke will be meeting his future wife. “I’m sorry that it was my birthday yesterday mom” Ryosuke spat as his mother turned to him, “That’s why I dislike your fake girlfriend so much, she’s a bad influence to you” she hissed as Ryosuke glared at her; “Don’t talk about her that way mom, you don’t know her” Ryosuke hissed as his mother crossed her arms. “I don’t like your attitude Ryosuke” His mother scolded as they arrived in front of the door that would more or less mark the end of Ryosuke’s life.
.//.
“Chin-up Erina, they’re here” Eri’s father spoke as Eri looked at the door, “We’re terribly sorry that we’re late Chitose-san” a woman stated as Eri stood up from her seat and looked at the lady. “Chitose Erina desu” Eri curtsied as the woman clapped her hands, “Ryosuke!” she called for his son who entered the room making Eri’s eyes widen in shock. “This is Erina, your future wife” Ryosuke’s mother spoke as Eri neared him and offered her hand, “Erina desu” She bit her lower lip as Ryosuke shook her hand; “Yamada Ryosuke desu” Ryosuke winked at her which made Eri smile.
“Why don’t the both of you get to know each other in the conference room at the end of the hall?” Eri’s father smiled as he gestured for the door. The couple made their way out and to the conference room; their guards were instructed to stay outside so that the two could talk alone.
“Is this...” Eri started to cry, “What they call Destiny?” she continued as Ryosuke pulled her into an embrace. “I can’t believe it” Ryosuke bit her lower lip as Eri held on him tighter. “What are the odds right?” Ryosuke stated as he broke the embrace, “I’m so thankful that this happened” Eri smiled as Ryosuke wiped the tears off her face. “You never told me that Erina was your real name” Ryosuke touched her nose with his fingertip, making the other giggle; “You never told me that you were the son of our future business partner” Eri reasoned as Ryosuke placed his forehead on hers, “That’s something we never really told each other, ne?” Ryosuke stated as Eri nodded.
“I never got to thank you properly for the party last night” Ryosuke whispered as they took a seat beside each other, “You’ll have your chance again next year and for the rest of your life” Eri responded which made Ryosuke laugh. “You know, besides the necklace, this is the best birthday present I could receive” Ryosuke stated as Eri smiled, “The surprise gifts are the best kind of gifts right?” she smiled as Ryosuke did the same. “Well then, here’s to the future Mrs. Yamada” Ryosuke chuckled as Eri nodded.
